Adaptive transit design: Optimizing fixed and demand responsive multi-modal transportation via continuous approximation

چکیده

In most cities, transit consists solely of fixed-route transportation, whence the inherent limited Quality Service for travellers in suburban areas and during off-peak periods. On other hand, completely replacing (FR) with demand-responsive (DR) would imply a huge operational cost. It is still unclear how to integrate DR transportation into current systems take full advantage it. We propose Continuous Approximation model system that gets best from transportation. Our allows deciding whether deploy FR or feeder, each sub-region an urban conurbation time day, redesign line frequencies stop spacing main trunk service. Since such design can adapt spatial temporal variation demand, we call it Adaptive Transit. Numerical results show that, respect conventional transit, Transit significantly improves user-related cost, by drastically reducing access Such benefits are particularly remarkable suburbs. Moreover, generalized including agency user also reduced. These findings confirmed scenarios automated vehicles. assist planning future-generation systems, able improve mobility appropriately combining fixed

Feeder transit services: Choosing between fixed and demand responsive policy

The Demand Responsive Connector (DRC) connects a residential area to a major transit network through a transfer point and is one of the most often adopted types of flexible transit services. In this paper, analytical and simulation models are developed to assist planners in the decision making process when having to choose between a demand responsive and a fixed-route operating policy and wheth...

A Simulation Study of Demand Responsive Transit System Design

In this paper we study the impact on productivity of specific operating practices currently used by demand responsive transit (DRT) providers. We investigate the effect of using a zoning vs. a no-zoning strategy and time-window settings on performance measures such as total trip miles, deadhead miles and fleet size. It is difficult to establish closed form expressions to assess the impact on th...

Multi-objective Evolutionary Approach for Optimizing a Demand Responsive Transport

In this paper, we address the Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) services. A DRT is a flexible transportation service that provides transport on demand, being especially useful in sparsely inhabited areas, which deal with a lack of transportation service. Users formulate requests specifying desired locations and times of pickup and delivery. The vehicle routes are planned and scheduled based on ...

Jointly Optimizing Cost, Service, and Environmental Performance in Demand-Responsive Transit Scheduling

ii ABSTRACT In certain types of fleet systems, the environmental impacts of fleet operation are, to some extent, a controllable function of vehicle routing and scheduling decisions. However, there has been little prior work that has considered environmental impacts in fleet vehicle routing and scheduling optimization, in particular, where the impacts were assessed systematically utilizing life-...

Green Transit Scheduler: a Methodology for Jointly Optimizing Cost, Service, and Environ- Mental Performance in Demand-responsive Transit Scheduling

Many types of transportation systems, for example, public transit and commercial freight hauling and package delivery, may be categorized as being fleet operations. The environmental impacts of fleet operations such as these are affected by factors including the initial choice and selection of vehicles (types) comprising the fleet, vehicle age and maintenance, and the modal conditions under whi...
